On 1 September 2026, the National Center for AI Robotics (NCAIR) visited the Fukushima Robot Test Field (RTF), a major robotics R&D and demonstration facility in Japan, as part of ongoing efforts to plan and develop robotics testing and validation testbeds. The visit was hosted by Prof. Shinji Suzuki, Director of RTF, Professor Emeritus at the University of Tokyo, and President of the Japan UAS Industrial Development Association (JUIDA), together with members of the RTF team.
The visit included a tour of RTF’s research building, test fields, and related facilities. The exchange covered the practical aspects of planning and operating test fields, approaches to testing, performance evaluation and standardisation, as well as the interplay among government support, research capabilities and industry needs in shaping robotics testing environments.
The exchange provided valuable insights into the development and operation of an internationally recognised robotics test field, laying the groundwork for the future development of high-quality robotics testing and validation testbeds while deepening Taiwan’s international links and strengthening its influence in smart robotics. Both sides expressed interest in continuing the exchange. Looking ahead, NCAIR will continue to strengthen its practical expertise and broaden its international outlook through reciprocal visits and technical exchanges.
